M.A.R.D NIGERIA (Massive Awareness on Rare Diseases) is a nationwide campaign funded by a grant from Horizon Therapeutics and organized by the Foundation for Neuromuscular Support (FNSN). Our mission is to raise awareness about rare diseases, particularly those affecting neuromuscular health in Abia, Delta, Kaduna, Kwara, and Osun states.
Our focus is on educating the general public, healthcare professionals, and policymakers about the unique challenges faced by rare disease patients, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, effective management, and social support. M.A.R.D NIGERIA takes a grassroots approach, directly reaching individuals and communities that often lack access to critical health education, to dispel misconceptions and reduce the stigma surrounding rare diseases.
Target Population:
The M.A.R.D Nigeria campaign aims to reach the population across the following states on these dates:
● Osun: Thursday, February 13th- Saturday, February 15th, 2025
● Kwara: Thursday, February 20th- Saturday, February 22nd, 2025
● Delta: Thursday, March 20th- Saturday, March 22nd, 2025
● Abia: Thursday, March 27th- Saturday, March 29th, 2025
● Kaduna: Thursday, April 10th- Saturday, April 12th, 2025
Each three-day campaign will include:
● Day1: Mediaoutreach and distribution of handbills
● Day2: Awareness campaigns in at least two public and private schools
● Day3: The M.A.R.D Walk and distribution of handbills to further engage the community This structured approach ensures we connect with local communities, spreading awareness and education on rare diseases.
